Introduction

The American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), AAPG Publications, and any company and legal entity owned or controlled by AAPG (collectively, "AAPG", "we", "us", or "our") - values your active participation and is committed to protecting your privacy. We recognize the importance of protecting the privacy rights of the individual in relation to your personal information that can be used to personally identify you. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, manage, disclose and transfer your personal information, and explains your rights regarding your personal information.

Why we collect personal information

The personal information we collect

Depending on the nature of your interaction with us, we may collect the following types of personal information from you: contact details (including postal address, email address, telephone number, etc.), organizational affiliations, profession or occupation, positions held, communication preferences, payment details and details of the products and services you have purchased from us or about which you have enquired.

We may also collect additional information relating to you that you have provided to us directly or indirectly through your access and use of our web sites, our application ("App"), by email or telephone, Technical Support, customer surveys and/or conversations with our representatives or otherwise.

How we collect personal information

Depending on the circumstance, we collect personal data through explicit forms and surveys which you complete to be able to be provided selected services. We use cookies to operate this website, which automatically collect statistics and user data, and measure the use and performance of our digital resources.

We also use Google Analytics, which provides anonymous statistical information to us. They process IP addresses and information from other cookies used on our sites so we know how many page views we have, how many users we have, what browsers are used and, in some cases, in which country, city or region they are located.

Retention of personal information

Personal data may be retained by AAPG for so long as necessary or useful to pursue the legitimate interests of AAPG. Other factors may include: the duration of the business or contractual relationship between AAPG and an individual, archiving of historical information, and legal requirements, including limitations periods during which a legal claim might be brought.

Sharing of personal information

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

We share your information within AAPG. We also share your information with our licensors, our agents, our distributors, and our suppliers, which assists us in making our App, web site and any related products and services available to you.

If you sign up for services that are managed or offered by other organizations, they will obtain your information and their privacy policy may apply to you.

If we believe that your use of our App, web site or other related services are unlawful or damaging to others, we reserve the right to disclose the information we have obtained about you to third parties to the extent that it is reasonably necessary in our opinion to prevent, remedy or take action in relation to your conduct.

We may also disclose or share your personal data in order to comply with any legal obligation; in order to enforce or apply any agreements or licenses with you; or to protect the rights, property, or safety of AAPG, our employees, affiliates, agents, distributors, licensors, suppliers, and/or our customers. If any part of our business is sold or integrated with another business, your details may be disclosed to our advisers and any prospective purchasers and their advisers.

Security and our partners outside North America

As a major international publisher, committed to the widest possible dissemination of scholarship and learning, AAPG has links with other organizations throughout the world. We exchange information with our overseas branches, associated companies and other parties, including distributors and sales agents. As such, from time to time, we may transfer, store and/or process information about you at a destination outside of the United States of America. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy. By using our App or web site, you consent to these transfers.

The transmission of information via the Internet is not completely secure. Although we will do our best to protect your personal data, we cannot guarantee the security of your data transmitted through the Internet. Any transmission of personal information is at your own risk. Once we have received your data, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorized access.

Individual rights regarding personal information

Individuals generally have the right to access their own personal data and to request that AAPG correct any errors or incompleteness in their own personal data. There is also a limited right to request deletion of personal data, which may be limited to complete anonymization of personally identifying elements of the data. Such requests should be directed to the designated Data Protection Representitive.

We reserve the right to make changes to this privacy policy. Any changes we may make to this privacy policy will be posted on this page and, where appropriate, notification will be sent to you by e-mail.

Governing law

To the extent that it is lawful, you agree that this privacy policy shall be exclusively governed by the laws of the United States of America and shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the United States of America.
